Getting Fit Quick: The Benefits of Interval Training

The word on fitness street is that interval training is key to becoming a healthy, happy and fat burning machine.  Ditch the long hours of boring low-intensity cardio and begin to play around with intervals.  Here are some quick and creative ideas to get you interval training in no time:

  1. For those of you who love the outdoors and running, try this! Go outside and run for two minutes, walk for one minute, jog for one minute and repeat for 5-7 rounds.  Super fun and totally free!
  2. Again, for those in good weather and for those who enjoy a free workout….go outside and skip for one minute, jog for two minutes, walk for one minute and do jumping jacks for two minutes.  Repeat until you reach 35 minutes of work.
  3. For those of you dealing with rainy weather…try hopping on your treadmill or other cardio machines for three minutes, do pushups for one minute, hold a plank pose for thirty seconds and follow up with one minute of burpees.  Repeat until you have reached 30-40 minutes of work.
  4. Lastly, if you do not have any fitness equipment, no worries, simply do an interval using your own body weight and your own creativity.  Try hopping for one minute, high knees for two minutes, plank work for one minute and anything else you like and repeat until you have reached a good amount of time and feel good and sweaty!

These are just a few ideas to get you going and, with all new exercise routines, make sure you are cleared by your doctor and able to go at it.  Circuit training should be fun and enjoyable.  If you do not like what you are doing, change it!  That is the beauty of intervals and circuits.  You can do whatever is best for you!
